Data Deletion Request

Request the deletion of your personal data from UPVS systems

Your Right to Data Deletion

Under data protection laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), you have the right to request the deletion of your personal data. This is also known as the 'right to be forgotten'.

When You Can Request Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your personal data when:

  • The personal data is no longer necessary for the purpose we originally collected it for
  • You withdraw your consent that allowed us to use your data
  • You object to the use of your data and we have no overriding legitimate interest
  • We have used your data unlawfully
  • We are required to erase your data to comply with a legal obligation

What Data Deletion Means

When we delete your personal data, we will:

  • Remove your personal information from our active databases
  • Ensure the data is deleted from our backup systems according to our data retention schedule
  • Notify any third parties with whom we've shared your data about your deletion request

Important Considerations

Please note that we may not always be able to comply with your deletion request for specific legal reasons, which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.

Additionally, deleting your data may impact our ability to provide you with services. For example, if you request deletion of your account data, you may no longer be able to access our vending services.

Data We May Retain

In certain circumstances, we may need to retain some of your data even after a deletion request. This includes when:

  • We need to comply with a legal obligation
  • The data is necessary for establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims
  • We need the data for scientific or historical research purposes
  • We require the data for statistical purposes in the public interest
  • The data is necessary for public health purposes

In such cases, we will only retain the minimum necessary data and will continue to protect it appropriately.

Before You Submit a Request

Before submitting a data deletion request, please consider:

Account Deletion vs. Data Deletion

If you want to stop using our services but don't necessarily want all your data deleted, you might consider simply deactivating your account instead.

Impact on Services

Deleting your data will permanently remove your access to UPVS services. You will need to create a new account if you wish to use our services in the future.

Verification Process

For security reasons, we need to verify your identity before processing any data deletion request. This helps ensure that only you can request deletion of your data.

What Happens After Submission

  • You will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours
  • We will verify your identity and the request (this may require additional information)
  • Once verified, we will process your request within 30 days
  • You will receive a final confirmation when your data has been deleted
